How to Become an Ayurvedic Doctor (BAMS - Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery)?

To become an Ayurvedic Doctor, a student must complete a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) degree, which is a 5.5-year course that includes Ayurvedic medicine, modern medical sciences, and surgery.


Step 1: Choose the Right Subjects After 10th Standard

After 10th standard, a student must opt for the Science stream with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). The required subjects are:
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
English and Hindi (compulsory for many entrance exams)

📌 Mathematics is optional, but some students take it to strengthen their analytical skills.


Step 2: Complete 12th Standard with PCB

In 11th & 12th standard, students must focus on:
Physics 
Chemistry 
Biology
English and Hindi – (Compulsory for some universities)

📌 Minimum Requirement: At least 50% marks in PCB  in the 12th board exams.


Step 3: Pass the NEET-UG Entrance Exam

For admission into BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery), students must qualify for NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Undergraduate).

Subjects in NEET-UG Exam

📌 NEET-UG covers subjects:
Physics (Class 11 & 12 level)
Chemistry (Class 11 & 12 level)
Biology (Class 11 & 12 level - Botany & Zoology)

📌 NEET is mandatory for BAMS admission in India.


Step 4: Get Admission into BAMS Course

Once you qualify for NEET-UG, you can apply for BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) in Government & Private Ayurvedic Colleges.

📌 Course Duration: 5.5 years (4.5 years academic + 1-year internship)



Step 5: Register & Practice as an Ayurvedic Doctor

After completing BAMS, graduates can:
Work as Ayurvedic Doctors in hospitals, wellness centers, or private clinics.
Open their own Ayurvedic Clinic or Panchakarma Center.
Work in Government AYUSH Hospitals, Research, or Teaching.
Pursue higher studies like MD/MS in Ayurveda.
